Me and a friend will be in Scotland next year in September for three weeks I'm so looking forward to that Maybe we get as lucky as last year when it was hot and sunny when we were there I guess it's now cold and wet? (Same here btw)

No, no... on second thoughts... it was sunny when we were at Burnt Island... That was a two day stop And correct me if I am wrong, anyone, but Burntisland is just across the Forth river from East Lothian, in the wonderful Kingdom of Fife (where I lived for 12 years or so) and a most excellent sunny place ;D (Happy memories of Silver Sands nearby )

as you are the locals... any suggestions where we HAVE to go when Tasha and I are in Scotland next September? You should spend some time in Edinburgh. I recommend Stirling Castle and the Wallace monument also. If you visit the west of Scotland, Eilean Donan is something to see, and Skye is wonderful, but anywhere along the west is worth a visit. Can I recommend the TripAdvisor forums for ideas and advice? They can be very useful. Do you have any plans so far? What kind of things do you want to see?

Well, I think we've seen a lot on our last trip a year ago. :-) Had some days in Stirling, one whole day in Edinburgh, climbed the stairs of Wallace Monument (phibi wanted to kill me after that!! :-)), visited Eilean Donan Castle as well! We had a wonderful time there, because we had a car and could go where we wanted to! Every day another direction .. from the east coast to the west over a lovely single track road with nearly no more cars than ours! and we followed the rainbow ... to find Clachtoll with the greatest beach of the west coast *sigh*

yes, and I will never ever set foot in that monument *lol* not until they installed a lift.
I think this time we will explore the south of scotland and the middle... and of course we have a cottage for a week near Clachtoll *happydance*

Clachtoll? Blimey! Now *that's* remote! Nice one. Sounds like you have done a lot of the good stuff! There isn't a huge amount in the south that would keep me away hanging around Clachtoll - Melrose is nice, we loved North Berwick (as opposed to Berwick, in England) but if I was you I would maybe see if you could try more islands, Arran, Mull maybe. They are so much fun. Go to Staffa and see puffins Correction - agh - no puffins in September, grrr.

jup, it's VERY remote *lol* our cottage is in culkein a five minute walk from the beach and the cottage has a open fire.... good stuff for fantasies and we were thinking about the islands, especially Mull, maybe we should really have a crack at it

Haddington looks lovely, I must say. Nice for a walk round, and some interesting buildings to visit, maybe? I wish we'd made a stop there now! North Berwick has the Scottish Seabird Centre, a super building, which is pricey to get into, but plenty to browse around, films etc. good to spend a rainy day. The beach is nice, but cold in September. Heck, it was perishing in August. The only person who braved the lido was my daughter But you can't beat Mull - Tobermory is a wee gem ;D
